Doughiska Castle (Galway)

On top of the lowest window of the South wall a rose-motif similar to that at Ballinderry Castle,
and on the other side of the ogee a carving of a church window below which is an upside-down figure,
which I have inserted the right way up at the bottom of the photograph by Gay Cannon.
The upside-downness harks back, of course, to the Romanesque exhibitionist acrobats,
and the window also recalls the roughly-contemporary window-top from Smithstown (Clare)
whose upside-down penis has been interpreted as a hammer.
